The Ducal logistics hub was founded in July 2011, and in 2015 became the global logistics centre for Calzedonia: all the brand’s products ordered online or purchased in stores pass through this facility. The hub is located in Croatia, in the Jalžabet industrial district, just a few kilometres from Varaždin. This area was chosen for a question of proximity: located nearby are the Calzedonia brand factories, in constant communication with the hub in order to continually boost efficiency.
Calzedonia offers plenty of growth opportunities everywhere for people prepared to challenge themselves and to develop personal and professional skills, and this guarantees valid employment opportunities for the local area: in Ducal, only two of the company’s employees are from outside Croatia. Since its foundation, the hub has brought huge advantages for the people of Varaždin, guaranteeing its employees – 70% of whom are women – independence and financial security. The hub also supports the community, by offering stable employment to people with disabilities, 50 to date, which earned it a nomination as “Employer of the Year for People with Disabilities for 2018”.
Calzedonia’s commitment to the environment is also present and supported in Ducal. Since 2014, over 5 million cardboard packages have been recycled and re-used, and in the early months of 2021, more than 18,000 trees were planted near the warehouse. As regards lighting in the plant, all the lights use LED technology, guaranteeing a 50% saving on the energy required. The plant is also committed to reducing all plastic materials by 70%, as well as the installation of a system of photovoltaic panels.
As regards certifications, in July 2019, Ducal received GRS (Global Recycle Standard) certification for a number of Calzedonia products made using recycled materials, and in 2021, the hub was also awarded “Known Consignor” certification for cargo transport by air.
Working for Ducal also offers a series of advantages, such as free foreign language courses for employees. Among the other actions in favour of employees is a guaranteed Christmas bonus in December, also extended to employees’ children and known as the “Santa Claus Bonus”.
